Grächen...

The mountain village of Grächen (VS) is a large sun terrace on top of the Matter, 1620 m altitude. This resort mainly car-free, surrounded by majestic mountains, welcomes families, it has also been awarded the "Families Welcome". Grächen offers including playgrounds, childcare and the rental of equipment for children. The family park allows children to make many discoveries. An afternoon of holiday passed without means to spend time on the trail of Ravensburger games or in the park Robi. Pippi Longstocking (Pippi Longstocking) spends her holiday in Grächen where it plays funny tricks. Grächen has the distinction of having a "Walk of Fame" where, as on the Hollywood Boulevard of the same name, regular visitors and celebrities are immortalized by the imprint of their feet.

The many typical Walliser wooden houses which mark the ancient heart of Grächen are flooded by the sun with an average of 299.5 days of sunshine per year, making it a dream destination.

The Grächen terrace is accessible by Postbus. Cars are banned in most of Grächen especially in the village, where it is possible to travel in electric vehicle. A large municipal parking fee (approx. CHF 10.-/per day) and several private parking lots are available for visitors.

Some decades ago, we grew cereals in Grächen, especially rye. For centuries, irrigation is provided by the irrigation channels "Biner" and Drier "which brought water to the meadows and fields before done by Ried glacier. Grächen has much to offer in terms of walking, along these open traditional channels passing through meadows of many colors, leading to the spectacular hiking of further and higher altitudes.The Europaweg long-distance trail stage from Grächen to Zermatt is the highlight of the several-day Monte Rosa tour.

Grächen can be reached in 20 min. drive from Visp via St. Niklaus.
